R2-Q5 Dome Painted

I have the Black on my Dome painted today I normally do the Painting myself but I let Calvin paint this It has a couple of spots that did not show up till we painted it. So when I go to work tomorrow I will check and see how it looks Hopefully when it dries a little more I won't see it, If so I guess I'll wet sand with higher grit sandpaper. Once I get the Copper painted on the Dome I will post more pics.

Here are some steps for my Legs Finally got them done. It was actually easy If you follow Dave's plans it will turn out as good as mine did :o ).

Center Ankle

Here are pics of the center ankle, I don't have all the pics as I forgot to take some of my progress. it's basically the same process as the outter ankles It turned out nice, I have to use ever coat on the beefy ankle part as I have a gap for some reason so I'll just fill it in.

Outter Ankles

Here is my outter Ankles, I cut all my pieces first and then started glueing.
First I glued the larger flat pieces and then started on the smaller pieces, once you get it all together then you build the beefy ankle pieces. I built mine on the ankle so I could get it as acurate as possible, Which was very easy. I used my little helpers to hold the pieces in place while the glue tacked up. After that You start skinning the ankle to finish off the piece.

Here are some pics of my skirt I haven't updated in a while, Been too busy so I am doing all of my progress pics now :o ). This was pretty easy as we used the right MM this time. It was very easy useing Dave's plans.

Here are some Pictures from our Chattanooga Trip we took for my Birthday. We had a great time Crissy and I playing in the Snow and the OLD MAN!!!! it was the best Present I could ask for. This was on top of Lookout Mountain. Crissy had like 5 shirts on LOL and I had 3 shirts and Thermal Pants and Jeans and was still Freezing LOL LOL.

Skins Glued

Here is a picture of my Inner Skins glued to the Frame and a pic of my Outer glued. The glue was perfect!!!! I didn;t melt anything on my Skins, now I need to glue all the Detail pieces on.I will be working on my Dome again this Weekend. Also R3's Right tire the valve Stem broke somehow, so now I bought me the solod tires which I have to switch out this Weekend.

Laser Cut Styrene Dome

Here is my Laser cut Styrene Dome, I thought I took a picture of the before I popped out the panels but I didn't so I have the after pictures. I started on this 3 weeks after my Surgery, after I popped the pieces out I sanded all the pieces and the Dome. The Dome is awesome but, The laser cutter got off on some of the panels, so I will have to sand more and make up for the difference. I only need to do a little sanding on the inner to get it to fit together properly and the I will start putting the pits in it to smooth it out, More to come.

Glueing On Skins

Here is my Inner and Outer skins being prepped to glue I was scared at first glueing the skins, because it is so easy to melt. I taped my skins on R3 but since I am building Dave's way I had to glue them. And to my surprise I did good I haven't melted anything yet ;o ) it is turning out good, but I'm not finished yet. I will post more when I finish glueing all of it.

Frame Glued

Well I am finally gonna posts some of my progress, I started my Frame the week of Christmas and finished it Saturday. It was pretty easy doing it the Dave Everett way ;o )....

I did get one of my pieces crooked and then had to cut it back out and redo, but now it's finished.

Cutting R2-Q5's Skins

I am starting on R2, I got my inner front Skins cut today, I am shareing the Table with Crissy and Calvin. So we take turns cutting which will take a little longer to build. Our 4x8 Sheets of polystyrene for the Frames will be in this week hopefully, it is coming in from Tennessee since my local supplier is out. More to come.

Starting R2-Q5

R2-Q5 was an R2-series Astromech Droid . R2-Q5 had black coverings highlighted by copper access panels. R2-Q5 was a well-equipped droid, with tools for repairing starships and special, hidden spy devices. He was also one of the few beings aware of IG-88A's infiltration of the Death Star.
During the latter stages of the Galatic Civil War, R2-Q5 was assigned to the second Death Star above the Moon Of Endor. When a Rebel attack destroyed corridors in the second Death Star, an R4 droid carrying a vital message was immobilized. R2-Q5 had to download the data from the downed droid and deliver it to the Emperer. He was destroyed in the explosion of the second Death Star.
Next week I will be ordering my Styrene for the Frame and Skins, and will be starting a new adventure ;o )
